Your protein should come in the form of lean meats like fish, chicken, and turkey.  Protein will will give you more sustained energy than simple carbs, and are necessary to help rebuild muscle after those hard workouts.

Finally, make sure you are consuming enough healthy fats.  Good fats (unsaturated fats) are vital in providing sustained energy, as well as aiding in the absorption of vitamins.  Good fats can be found in nuts, seeds, and some fruits.
